Green My School: School in London’s Victoria installs Green Screens

27 April 2018

Shielding London school from harmful air pollutants

Following the inaugural “air quality audit” and subsequent Green My School green screen installation at Prior Weston City of London school, Meristem Design have also completed a further Mobilane Green Screen project in London’s Victoria.

Let’s hear from the pupils about the difference their Mobilane Green Screens are making in the playground…

With a high level of air pollution in its central urban location close to Victoria mainline train stations and bus stations, the air quality within the school grounds was of particular significance.

Mayor’s Greener City Fund

Funded by the Mayor’s Greener City Fund (see also our Mobilane Green Screens at Goose Green) and Grosvenor Estates, this Green My School install at St Peter’s Eaton Square C of E Primary School featured seven custom-made planters containing Mobilane’s ivy-planted Green Screens to 2.3 metres high. These covered the existing rear wall between the busy road beyond the playground. To add a further element to the sensory environment, Meristem also planted rosemary, mint, thyme and sage at their bases, with additional seating and shrub planting completing the natural setting.

“Create a better London”

A representative from the school management and staff – who hope to incorporate the care and watering of the screens and plants into the children’s educational plans – said that they “want the children to become adults who can help reduce the harmful impact of climate change and create a better London and world”.

Meristem Design have an increasing schedule of Mobilane Green Screen installations across the City. If you have a school or educational establishment in a polluted area, you should consider the addition of Mobilane Green Screens. Meristem offer a free green screens audit and can also help guide you in applying for grants within the funds mentioned – get in touch.

UPDATE: November 2018 – find out about Phase 2 of this project with additional installations of green screens at this school. Read more>>
